Hi all, will soon be travelling on route 66, mainly in New Mexico (from Gallup, NM to Amarillo, Texas) Any tips about where to stay, must-sees etc. is most appreciated!
So far Tucumcari and Santa Rosa seem interesting. And of course the Cadillac Ranch near Amarillo.
I travelled 66 from kansas to Okalhoma city... Wasn't all that great actually. At times very hard to find the actual road, and it gets boring fast, at least if you travel alone, since it's mostly the same all along th eroad with small towns offering about the as to what experiences concern. But I guess the eastern more part of the route will be more interresting, I guess nothing really is see-worthy in the "fly-over states anyways"
I'd recommend you getting a route 66 map. Those should have most of the attractions marked off on it. Happy travelling!
I always found this the best route and believe me the people are amazing. You should seek the Karma Hotel some people say it looks like heaven but could be hell- WARNING don't take your kids
