I will be arriving in Perth in Feb 08 and while I'm sure I can find plenty of things to do there, I'm not sure where to go or what to do after there. My general direction will be to head North towards Darwin but I don't want to miss out on what may be south of Perth. Any ideas? I will be travelling on my own so I thought about maybe doing an organised trip but there are so many!
So far I have 6 days accommodation booked in Perth, should I just wait till I get there and see what happens?
Any advise is much appreciated!
unfortunately I haven't been to the area south of Perth yet, but from what I've heard from others it's not too be missed.
A good company to do tours with around WA, is easyrider. I went from Exmouth to Perth with them and had a great time.
Also, getting from Perth up north towards Darwin should not be a problem. Especially at this time of the year there will be plenty of other backpackers around and if you look around the notice boards in the hostels I'm sure you'll be able to find a lift. Until Coral Bay/ Exmouth there isn't too much to see along the coast, but Ningaloo Reef is spectacular and make sure you visit Karijini Nationalpark. It's probably my favourite in Australia.
Hope this helps as a start ,
I did a trip with easy rider from Perth and stopped at Dunsborough, Margaret River, Augusta and Albany and there were options for various other stops along the way. I would recommend both the route and easy rider - its a pretty part of Australia and much less touristy than the east coast, and easyrider tours are a convenient and sociable way of doing it. you can spend as long as you like in each place.
