Hello, can anyone recommend a good(cheap) calling card, and where to get one, to call the states from Thailand. Or another way to call home. Thank you.

What about www.skype.com. Pretty much all internet cafes in the well travelled areas have the facilities for Skype.

Alternatively, some internet cafes offer reasonable rates for calling 'home', but do shop around.

if you are in bangkok there are numerous places in the Khao San Road area where you can make cheap calls abroad. I guess this is the situation outside bangkok too, but I'm not sure if there are phone cards available too.

There are lots of internet shops, you can always use email too!

Some internet shops and travel agencies also sell "telephone service" where you can use their phone for cheap calls back home.

There are local "street entrepreneurs" who allow you to use their phone for calls, some even have their own phone booths (several in Pattaya!)

Most 7-11 stores have phone cards I believe, and they are set to a limit (I remember getting a 500 baht one). There are often yellow phones on the outsides of shops, i used them in phuket, koh phangan, chiang mai. If you can't see any perhaps just ask the 7-11 storeperson where the nearest phone is.

If you're planning to make more than a couple of calls a day, I would suggest you buy a local SIM card - they start at around 100 baht and can be topped up at every ATM and 7/11 store.
Just get your own cell phone "unblocked" - can be done in Thailand and off you go.
Some US systems are a bit strange and the phones don't work anywhere else - ask a friend....NOT your company....they want to keep you making expensive calls back home on there network.

I'm not sure of the rates (7baht per minute?) dial 007 008 009 to get an international line and then your country's code etc etc.
other advantages are that you can use it to speak/sms to your friends all over Thailand as well and it a great help finding someone you've lost in a market etc...
you can get all the numbers off your US card copied to the Thai one.....and....

your family can ring you instead - this will cost you nothing!!!!

Agree with wildfk.
Just buy HAPPY SIM (99 THB, 35 THB on account). Then call 009-(country code)-(phone number)
I called home every day, 5 THB/minute (to Russia).
Local rates 1-2 THB/minute.
