Hello, I head to vietnam in 10 days and will be travelling from Hanoi to HCMC. I just wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations along the way, or some of their favorite places. Thank you.

I'm jealous. I am heading to Thailand in a few weeks for a bit of a holiday, but a big part of wishes I was heading back to Vietnam instead - one of my favorite country's in the world.

Most of my top highlights were in the North - primarily Sapa (spend a few days to do a hike), Halong Bay (do a 3 day cruise) and Hanoi (fantastic city).
Hoi An, about in the middle of the country, is one of Vietnam's biggest draws and for good reason. It's a beautiful peaceful little town and well worth a visit.
Hue, also in the middle, is a pretty great city, with famous old temples to see.
Nha Trang is great for a bit of beach time and fun
And the Mekong Delta is also a must.
HCMC and Dalat are also both worth a stop.

I agree with all of the above comments (although i didn't get to sapa unfortunately). A good way to get from Hanoi to Hue is by the overnight sleeper train, as there is not much to see on this stretch anyway. For the rest of the country you could use a combination of open tour buses and the odd cheap internal flight with Vietnam airways.
Don't miss the Cu Chi tunnels near HCMC.
leave youself a good few days for Hanoi as it's fantastic.

Thanks for the great responses. I don't think I'm gonna be able to make it to sapa this trip, but I'm gonna do everything else. thanks again.

That's too bad, you'll be missing out on the best bit of Vietnam. If you can spare a few days, make the effort.

For me gotta be Mui Ne - perfect idyllic beach resort away from the crowds perfect place to chill out on the beach and relax in the sunshine. Then dine on fresh seafood before having a few beers or cocktails (cos they are so damn cheap)!

Or Hoi An - there was flooding there 3 days before l arrived 2/3 days ago - but it is a pretty town and less hussle and bussle than other areas. Stay for 1-2 nights its enough, have some food, wander around the streets, pop into a tailors and get some clothes made - l got a silk dress made for $18 - for nothing and the dress is gorgeous!!

Right now lm in Hue - and it is pouring down - was to do a motor bike tour of the citadel and sites but its just too wet - so l cannot comment on what the city is really like!

Still just googled the weather in Hanoi - sunshine baby!
