I am traveling to Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand, starting in January. I think I have it planned so that I avoid the major holidays in each country. Is it necessary to book hotels/hostels beforehand, or can you just show up to a city and find a room easily?
If you should make reservations everywhere you go, what is the best way to go about getting things reserved? E-mail, long-distance phone calls, text message, etc.?
Thanks for the help.
You can pretty much show up and get a room anywhere in Asia.
If you want to book something before hand, try www.hostelworld.com for a preview before you go.
If you really want to book before hand, the internet is the best place.
As always, depends on your budget as to the type of accomodation you go for.
sometimes booking ahead is good....I won't do it unless I have stayed there before, most of the rooms I booked online prior looked nothing like what was expected....and it was never better...almost better off looking before you buy, unless you're coming in to the area at a late hour...earlier this year I was on a trip and had prebooked 10 nights at various different locations throughout India, only one was as good as the pictures.the umaid bhawan in jaipur was the only one that lived up to its photo's.good luck.....
