1st time OS travellers, looking at Vietnam. Have approx 10-14 days. Looking at doing tourist trail. Are we trying to cram in too much or would we be better doing just HCM & southern region only? The more I read the more freaked out I get. We would be flying between cities to maximise stay. We are young 40's & are now looking to expand our travel wings. Any suggestions??

Two weeks is definitely too short to see the whole of the country and all its highlights. You need a full month for that. So unfortunately you will have to pick and choose where you go.
If you only have 10 days than I think it's best to stick with either the North or South.
My first choice by a landslide would be the North - it had most of the highlights of the country for me. I would spend 4 days in and around Hanoi, taking some day trips along the way to the Perfume Pagoda etc...I would also spend three days in Halong Bay, and 3 days in Sapa.
Second choice would be the South - visiting HCMC, the Mekong for 3 days, and then maybe Nha Trang and/or Dalat.
If you can spare the full 14 days, then you maybe able to squeeze in a combo trip of the North and South, but it would be a quick one. Maybe visit the South first for 5 days or so, seeing HCMC and the Mekong, and then fly to Hanoi, visiting at least the city and Halong Bay and hopefully Sapa if you have time.
But personally, with only 14 days I would still stick to either the North or South and and attempt to fit in Hoi An and/or Hue (right in the middle) to either trip.

Thanks for taking time to reply. Your advice will probably be taken and is very much appreciated.
