I am also in the stage of booking and have found this 5 week thing to be true. They need to book a place on the trail in advance because only a centain number of people are allowed on the trail at any one time.

It's true, they all want 5 weeks. I started this thread a while ago and have been searching for info ever since. There is a limit on the numbe rof people allowed on the trail at any one time (including porters) so you need to book a spot. The regulations were created in 2001 but have not been enforced until recently by the authorities.

g´day,

i did the inca trail with LAMA PATH - INCREDIBLE - i have nothing but praise for these guys - the guides were without a doubt the best guides i have ever come across - they would sit us down at each site and go into the history, spirituality, religous...you name it they went into it. They really made us feel as if we were part of the inca pilgrimage to Machu Pichu - a seriously incredible experience that i would not have had if it werent for Lama Path and their guides and porters. Everyone in my group (a large group by trail standards - 16 but and incredible bunch) didnt not take their eyes or ears from what the guides were saying.

The porters were by far the best treated from what i saw on the trail as well - GAP, SAS and United Mice porters frequently approached members of my group for food!

Oh yeah - the food was unbelievable!

If you decide to go with Lama Path ask for Jose and Alex as guides - you will not be dissapointed!

Cheers

Shaun

Just wanted to let you know how much the 4 of us enjoyed our trek to Machu Picchu with ANDEX ADVENTURE . The services were superb...the food , the guide , the camp set-up at lunch and dinner times . It was all first class and at such a reasonable rate ! There was one fellow who ate and slept with us but who had his own guide and had booked through a travel agency in Calgari and paid 2X as much as we did ! I will definitely recommend ANDEX ADVENTURE company www.andex-adventure.com to anyone I know who will do the trek !!!

Dear: Edmundo Just a note to thank you and all who were associated with our trip to Peru for a truly ‘All Trek Tour Operator’. The highlight was the Inca Trail Trek which, whilst being far harder than we could ever have imagined, was an experience that we will never forget. Your guide, Rony, the porters and the cook were truly brilliant and a credit to your company

I just did the Inca Trail a few days ago . . . it was AWESOME!!!! I did the trek with United Mice - I thought that they were great!! Our guide, Victor, was awesome!! The food was great! The porters were super cool! Its hard to know if they were actually paid fairly, though. I´m not sure that you can know, for sure, with any company.
