I am going to be in Brazil for the Carnival in Feburary. Where is the best place to be for it. I am going with my boyfriend and we were going to go to Rio, but i have heard that it is full of tourists and just too crazy and therefore difficult to survive the fall stint . Then i thought about Salvador but was told it could be dangerous. We are going all over Brazil so any suggestions are helpful. We want to experience all the crazy parties and everything
Of course Rio is full of tourists during Carnaval, but that should not keep you away. By all means go to Rio! But make your arrangements well in advance including tickets to Carnaval Balls and Parades.
You may want to stay in Ipanema if you want to stay away from the frenetic atmosphere of Copacabana.
Feel free to contact me if you need more info. I was a tour director in Rio for 6 years.

You can come to Olinda in Pernambuco. I think is the best carnaval party. If you wanna a crazy party All party is crazy! Search for " Olinda Pernabuco Carnaval"
Fell free, to ask me anything you wanna.
Recife - PE
for me the best choice would be going to salvador on carnaval because its only on the street ( public street parades , you can buy tickets to be in a secured area around a truck - or even on ) !
And I dont think it is not more dangerous than in Rio because for the parties in Rio you will be on the streets as well. Same thing !
But whereever you decide to go, book your lodging etc well in advance !!
Have a nice trip !
Thank you for all your help. it sounds like rio is proabably the place to go!
Where do you think the best place to stay in rio would be for the carnival? we are budget backpackers so has to be cheap. I guess if in rio for the carnival want to be somewhere in the middle of it all!! so we are never far from the party! - any ideas - also how woudl i go about booking the parades etc - thank you for all your help
