I would like to travel solo around Jordan and Egypt for about 2 weeks in the start of January 2008. I am looking for helpful information as a "solo white female" traveller. Itinerary is fly into Amman, spend a few days looking about (ie: Desert Castles and the Dead Sea) then off to Petra for a look about, then catch to ferry from Aqaba to Nuweibia, Eygpt. From there I am not too sure. If there is anyone that is going to be in the country around this time and are looking for a travel companion, let me know. If not, any helpful tips and suggestions are greatly appriciated.
Sounds like a cool trip. I've done parts of it and I am sure you'll enjoy it.
Just follow the basic rules for solo-female travel in the ME and you'll be fine. (Ie wide ankle-lenght skirts, loose-fitting blouses with 3/4 sleeves or men's t-shirts, nylon socks to cover your ankles, sunglasses.) A good guidebook is essential - I can recommend the Lonely Planet series.
Hey! I'm also a solo female traveller to Cairo. Let me know if you want to meet up!! Jan 10-14, 2008
went from aquaba to nuweiba couple yrs ago,to be honest its a horrible place.if you really want to go,head down the coast to dahab, chilled out fishing village, diving etc.alternatively head inland to mount sinai,st.catherines monastery, that of the burning bush, moses etc, quite interesting.there isnt much else going on in the area, and its a long way to anywhere.just a suggestion, syria would begood alternative for a few days, safe and cheap, very hospitable people, some great sights, krac de chevalliers, damascus souks, palmyra etc.whatever you decide, enjoy yourself
