In need of some good advice again!
In Cambodia atm and have decided to try to squeeze Laos into or itinerary. We will be finished in Siem Reap on 29th November, and have until 10th December to spend in Laos.
Could anyone PLEASE give us some advice on how to get from Siem Reap - Vientiane then back to Bangkok? I have one complication though - we have already booked an AirAsia flight from PP - BKK on 10th Dec! Do you think we could change this in someway or will we have to stick to it? So confused!
Any help woud be really appreaciated.
Time may be cutting it short, if you are really restricted by your dates, but I travelled by land from Cambodia and northward to Laos- You can take buses from PP to Stung Treng (near the border), then cross into Laos. Don Det and the islands in southern Laos are a great place to spend a couple days , then you can head further north by land to Pakse, or straight through to Ventiene. Again if you have the time I would recommend continuing on to VangVieng, and Luang Prabang, or even further north to Luang Namtha or Muong Ngoy/ Nongkiaw.
Now of course if you cannot change your dates, you will not have time for all this, and you may want to look into flights- but I have to say Laos was one of the high-lites of my time in SE Asia and I would try to fit it in, if possible.
From Vientiane to BKK you can cross over to Nong Khai in Thailand just over the bridge (the Thai Lao friendship bus from Talat Sao bus station goes there, around 2 hours) and take an overnight train to BKk. From what i heard a first class sleeper is around 1200 baht.
