Hey Everyone,
I've been traveling alot in the past year and have met so many amazing people from all over, and have been so excited at the opportunity to know people from around the world and hopefully have the chance to meet up again in new places. Just recently I met up with a friend from the US and Canada in Chicago, where two of us have never been before; and it was amazing. We had a great weekend together and it felt like we were back on our Contiki tour in New Zealand where we met, and it felt so accomplishing to follow through with plans to meet up in the future. Its great for networking I met even more people over the weekend, and saying that the three of us met in NZ was a great conversation starter. Also my Australian roommate from when I lived there recently came for a visit to NY and it was a great feeling to be able to show her my home and culture.

So I guess I'm just curious if other people have kept in touch with people you've met while traveling the world and if you get the chance to meet up again later on and explore new parts of the world together. Share your stories about your friends from around the world!

Hey Blue, you are so right! I met a Canadian, Lisa, at a hotel in Nairobi waiting for a taxi that never showed up. It turned out she was on the same flight to Cairo and we ended up hanging out for the next two weeks. As she'd visited the city several times, so many doors were opened up to me in Egyptian homes that I never would have exeperienced. Seven months later I visited her in Toronto! My tent mate on an overland through southern africa is one of my best friends in the world now! I visited her in Durban, RSA a couple times and am about to go and see her in England in January. She's been to Philly to visit me too. Travel has connected me with people all over the world. It's lead me to visit places in Hong Kong, Thailand, Austria, Grenada, Mexico, Italy, Canada, England, & South Africa where I might not have otherwise gone. It even lead me to my husband who I met in South Africa! Now that was certainly an unexpected bonus!

Met up with my roommate from the Niagara Falls hostel this May! She's Canadian and was on an Asian tour so stopped by in Singapore. We met in 2004 and it was really cool cos we don't keep in touch that often as she's always on the go and I'm always caught up with work.

I'm also involved in a couple of international organisations so when I travel (mainly for meetings and conferences or when they come over) it's always cool to meet up with those I've been working with and able to spend time with them getting to know them beyond their work persona. Come think of it I haven't actually had a trip where I'm just a normal tourist since 2003!!!

I have also met up some TPers and caught up with quite a few people I met whilst travelling. Some came to visit me where I live/lived or vice versa, which is nice, because you get to the other person from a different prospective (they're at home). Next year, I'm invited to a friends wedding in the U.K. We met four years ago in N.Z. and seen each other once since then. I believe if you have that special connection right from the start and stay in touch, you'll always make plans to see each other again or even travel together in the future ;).
