Hi there, can anyone recommend a good cheap place to stay in Udon Thani? For lets say below 10 USD?

Thanks for the help :)

Glad to help. My mate from Pattaya goes up to Udon Thani regularly to play golf and get out of the frenzy of Pattaya.

have not stayed at pakalong, decent price but location is a bit out of town. there are some better options. udonmap website has all the info you need about udon, including forum with many local expats on it. some other options would be, top mansion, hard beds, ruysuk, my present favorite, tkc condotel, near park area, nice, stayed there the other night. many options, ask if needed more info, or pm me.

not sure what your budget is, irish clock is the best, book in advance, with other options and price ranges. where do you want to be located, central shopping/western restaurants, more local oriented, nightlife?

Hi Udornla,

Thanks for your help. My budget is around or below 10 USD, but ill only be staying in Udon Thani only one night before i move on to Laos, so not very picky with where i stay.

Do you know where i can take the Thai-Lao friendship bus over the border by the way?

You cross over in Nong Khai which is a worthwhile place to spend a few days. There are a couple of great and inexpensive places to stay there and I'd recommend at least 1-2 days there. Try either the Mut Mee guesthouse or Ruan Tian. Rent some bikes and ride out to see the fishing nets and the Salakeawkoo Sculpture Park.

you are supposed to have a visa ahead of time for the thai-lao bus, only because it may take a few more minutes than they want to wait as most are locals and get processed very fast. at worst, they will leave you at the border, but still the best way to get there. used to be 80 baht, bus station in udon to bus station in vientianne, near morning market. if left at laos side of border, no problem, 150 baht tuk tuk gets you to town. visa can be had ahead of time in bkk or khon kaen if in the area. top mansion is 350 now, best location for price, close to everything, especially the night market near train station. best variety and price for food. ruysuk is 300 or 320, depending on mood of propietor, free internet or wifi if having laptop, also close enough to walk to anywhere. if need help making reservations, let me know and i can make for you. bus station is easy to find, 2 serve thai-laos bus. if you plan to use, i'll verify info for you. i used once on return, very convenient. i'm at laphanphon at hotmail if needing a bit of info. in nong khai, i think mut mee is overrated, i like chiang khong, better location, no mossies and close to everything. 400 baht. i think next to ruan thai. i think udon has more to offer, except the mekong to look at, but you will see that over in vientianne. let me know if i can help any.

yo, if wanting to hang out with some westerners/farangs, there's a get together every 1st saturday of the month, which this month was moved to Nong's Original Ribs, which is having a re-grand opening, as it has changed hands. great bunch of people and cheap food and beer, with some specials for the event. if wanting to go, ring me 0878610261, it's close to everything, hotel right down the street, mono place, 400 baht, comfy, i may stay there myself, depending on alcohol intake. if not, the night market is the place you want to be, which is where the usually meeting is held, but changed, since nobody likes to miss a get together/grand opening/specials. hope to see you in town.
