hey, i'm from hawaii and plan to do RTW in '09...
can anyone tell me if it's best to travel in a east or west direction?
i noticed a slept a bit better on the plane going west than east......does any body have any input on this from past experience?
I just came back from my RTW trip 3 which I started from London in November 2006.
We decided with my husband to go west to enjoy the best weather as possible, so my advice is really to look at the climate of each country at the season you're planning to visit them and then decide accordingly.
I hope you'll have as much fun as I had during your travel
I agree - weather is the biggest factor in deciding East or West and really the only thing that matters. Do research on the best time to visit each country and attempt to make a route based on that. You can never get a route to always match the best weather, but the closer it is the better your trip will be.
Others often feel that visiting less challenging countries first is a good idea, especially if you are a first time traveler and are a bit nervous about the whole thing. For example, alot of people like to leave places like India till later on in their trip and tackle places like Europe, Australia, or Southeast Asia first.
Travelling from East-West is best assuming the weather is good doing it that way. It is meant to not cause as many problems with regards to Jetlag although not sure if it is true having never experienced Jetlag even on fairly long flights (never travelled from west-east large distances for this very reason). I do think that the weather should be your number one determining factor as to which direction to go, but if possible plan your trip to travel east-west with good weather all or most your trip.
great advice guys! weather is a huge factor! thanks for the input
