Its easy, you just get off the bus, get your passport stamped with entry and exit stamps then get back on.

Make sure you take all your valuables off the bus Crossing into Singapore - sometimes the bus leaves without you if the queing takes too long. I lost my video camera this way!

ok, thanks! do u know if there is a railpass that allows you to travel around thailand and then malaysia down to singapore or do you have to get seperate tickets?

When you are at Padang Besar checkpoint, get everything back to stamp your passport. The same goes for Singapore - Malaysia checkpoints. Just get everything down with you.

You hv to buy the ticket seperately. Bkk - Butterworth. KL Sentral - Singapore.

Err... bus? I thought Marcus asked about the trains? :) Anyway, you're right. If you're taking a bus across the border, take all your belongings with you on both sides of the immigration and customs.

As for trains going into Singapore, the Malaysian immigration and customs will get on board the train at the Johor Bahru station to do the checks and collect the immigration card from you. Since passengers do not have to get off the train, it may take a while for them to complete the checks before the train resumes the journey and crosses the causeway into Singapore. However, once on the Singapore side, you will have to take everything with you for immigration and customs inspection. The border control officers will make sure all passengers have passed the immigration and customs checks before letting them back onto the train.

There's no railpass like in Europe. You'll have to get separate tickets for each journey. The Malayan Railway (Keretapi Tanah Melayu - KTM) service starts from Haadyai in Thailand all the way through the west coast of the peninsula down to Tanjong Pagar in Singapore. The east coast line (where the famous jungle train runs on) starts at the border and joins the west coast line at the Gemas station.
