earth26 has indicated that this thread is about France

5 of us will have a chance to stop over in Paris on 15/12/07 (morn) before making our connecting flight back to Malaysia on 16/12/07 (morn). Can anyone suggest a budget place we can stay that will allow us easy travel to the City Centre for some sightseeing and back to the airport for our flight home. Our must see is of course the Eiffel Tower. We're thinking also whether its possible to squeeze in a visit to the Lourve, Champ Elysse and maybe a bit of souvenier hunting. Any suggesting? Also any advise on transport?

I find the best places to stay in Paris for economy and convenience are the Etap hotels - these are

For all travel in Paris the Metro is the best and only solution - cheap, fast and clean

This site also has information about the rail link from the airport

Have fun

Going up the Eiffel at night is a must! Very beautiful views of the city lights. I just didn't like the guys who were pushing Paris souvenirs to those who are leaving the tower. Got quite a shock and scared when the lift doors opened. And Champ Elysee will be beautifully lit up for Christmas too. Another place to get a good overview of the city is the Sacre Cur but you may not be able to do so many things in one night. Perhaps you could do the Louvre and Notre Dame in the day. Area opposite and around Notre Dame has many souvenir shops.

www.hostelworld.com has listings for group or single/double occupancy rooms that are budget friendly. Just about everywhere in Paris has good metro access, as long as you stay within the city limits. Good luck!
Could always try couchsurfing.com too.

I stayed at hotel Novex for about 55 euros for a double bed. The hotel is a decent one, neat and clean and the owners are quite helpful and speak good English.

Metro is the cheapest way to travel around Paris.

If u intend to visit the Louvre, reach there early in the morning so that u dont get stuck up in the long queue and have enough time to see the Mona Lisa and other famous paintings.

the BEST way to travel around Paris is on the BateauBus. U can get on and off whenever u like and it takes u to all the main tourist areas. Much better than the Metro, although the Metro is very good, but I would rather travel along the river on a boat really!! The views are amazing and definatelly worth doing.

I agree!!! U can take a 1-day pass for the boat and enjoy the spectacular views. The major touristic sites are along the river, so u can get on and off as per ur convenience
