Morning all
Me and the girlfriend are travelling up the east coast in a couple of weeks and have been looking into all sorts of transport from Buying our own car, oz experience, greyhound ( the bus not the dog) or the train,,

Does anyone have any good or bad reviews of oz experience or greyhound ??

We are looking at travelling from Sydney to Cairns then on to Alice Springs..

Any idea on prices either
Any help would be appreciated
Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul,

I did the East Coast of OZ last year and I'd say the best bet is either buy a car or hire a campervan. The Oz experience can be a pain in the arse, constantly on and off buses with your luggage etc and is fairly restrictive. I was fortunate enough to meet a guy who had already hired a campervan, so I don't know about costs, though I started off travelling in a car which the guy had paid about $500 for (but then it was a pile of crap).

Ooh and stay away from Cairns!! What a disappointment, it really isn't worth the long drive from the Port of the Whitsundays as there's not a great deal in between. Cairns is typically full of squaddies who will hassle your girlfriend every time she leaves your side - plus, it's just another town, nothing special...

Hope that helps!

Hi Paul,

I am doing the same thing in a couple of weeks and this is what I have found to be the cheapest. Go to Wanderers Travel website and do the East Coast mega deal for $600. It includes free nights accom, sailing whitsundays, fraser island safari etc and bus pass from Sydney to Cairns unlimited trvel. While in Cairns I am then buying a tour that takes me from Cairns to Alice Springs, 3 day camping and climb the rock and much more for $ 315. And then I am just flying back to Sydney, honestly this is the best I could find.

Hey Paul,

I did this stretch on good ol' Greyhound and it worked fine for me. Price was the best I could find at that time, but it was three years ago. Especially if there are two of you it's ok as by yourself it isn't really the best of meeting places...

And the stretch between Cairns and Darwin sure was a long one; but that goes for any type of travel if you aren't flying!

Enjoy the trip!

Sam

Morning All

Ended up buying a ticket from Oz experience cost $940
This included bus pass from Sydney to Cairns, Flights from Cairns to Alice Springs, Alice to Sydney and the 3days 2 night tour of Uluru and Kings canyon..

Not too bad
As I have seen the flights for $250 - $ 400 EACH ONE WAY

If you do anything on the East coast do GREAT KEPPELL ISLAND
Unreal...

Get off at Rockhampton and Give Barry a Call at Emu Park guest house. He does a nice wee package

All the Best
Paul
