I will be in SE Asia for this holiday and was looking forward to experiencing dragons and firecrackers. I will be around Bangkok during this time but was thinking about catching a flight somewhere to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

Where are the best places to celebrate this holiday? I would be willing to travel anywhere in the region to get the BEST possible experience. Has anyone ever celebrated the new year in the area? Where did you celebrate it? What cities in the region have the biggest parties/festivities?

Thanks for your help!

AJ

AJ,
Pattaya certainly knows how to host a party. Fireworks over the bay, plenty of live entertainment, people from all over the world eager to ring in the new year. I think it is your best choice in SEA.

Are you talking about Jan. 1st or Feb. 7th?

Because I'm looking for something going on Feb. 7th. The Chinese New Year.

Should try China. Or maybe Singapore & Malaysia where you can see Lion and Dragon dances with Fire Crackers.

The Chinese New Year falls on Feb. 7th in 2008. It is based on the lunar calander, so it is the same in all countries.

I appreciate everyones input, but no one has answered my question.

I am looking for a specific location/city where they have the BEST festivities. Has anyone been anywhere to celebrate this?

Thanks for your help!

I have been to both NYE and Chinese New Year in Pattaya and they do it up. There will be at least 3 dragon exhibitions going on and anoher fireworks display over the bay. I vote Pattaya for both holidays.
