Hi there, my name is Kelly and this is my first time to this website. I really like it from what I've seen so far!!
My husband and I are NOT travellors, but hopefully that's going to change as we are going to Varadero in January. We are SOOO excited, but at the same time, not sure what to expect. We kind of like to "do our own thing" and explore, but is that wise in Cuba? I've read all about how friendly the locals are, so it sounds like it's not really a problem..? We would love to be able to just walk around and stop where we want, etc. Walk down the beach for four hours just checking everything out. Is this possible?
Any advice on Cuba and/or Varadero would be very much appreciated. Thank you!
Welcome Kelly, hope you enjoy TP
Hi and welcome to TP!
Most hotels in Cuba have excursions that you can join, for a smallish price. Havana is an absolutely beautiful and unique city - visit if you can. You'll never see a city in the world like it, with old cars, crumbling but beautiful buildings, artwork, old pubs, etc. etc. You can probably take a trip into Varadero, too. Check with your hotel to see what excursions they offer. I'm sure you could even arrange to go on your own.
The resorts are nice and relaxing, but you can get out to see "real" Cuban life by renting a scooter or borrowing a bike from your hotel. Cubans are friendly and accommodating - just use your best judgement, as you would anywhere, and you should be fine.
Hi Kelly and welcome, good to have you here.
All the best,
Welcome to TP!
I hope you have a great time in Cuba and here in TP!
