I stayed in the Northbridge area which was OK, near to the city. I can't remember the name of the hostel but be careful of the 16 bed dorms, unless you are super-skint I would stear clear and only for a dollar or 2 more, you can have a smaller dorm

I stayed in In Northbridge for my first night at the Ozi Inn http://www.oziinnbackpackers.com.au/framemain.htm

It was ok. It seemed nice enough and I felt safe there and the people running it were nice and helpful.

I wanted a calmer place though so I moved out to Freemantle and stayed at Port City Backpackers it was a nice relaxed place and i got the tube into city centre from there. They were also nice to me and I enjoyed staying there.

The best hostel in Perth has to be "One World Backpackers" on Aberdeen Street in Northbridge! It is fantastic, really clean and well run. It is relatively quiet but you will meet people and there are always people going out for drinks and partying. The facilities are 2nd to none. Fremantle is really cool but quite far out of the way. If you are staying in Perth for a long time then have a spell in Northbridge (central perth) and a spell in Freo. If you are looking for a real party hostel in freo then head to "The Old Fire Station" Quiet hostel? Head to the one mentioned in the previous response. If you are not in Perth for too long then defo head for One World on Aberdeen Street.
