Me and my boyfriend are planning to work a ski season next year (08/09). We have been told that we will have to get our working visa soon and start applying for jobs. Ideally we would like bar/waitress work but I am sure that is everybody's preference. We have been advised to work for the mountain but I just wanted to know if anyone has done this or is planning to do this and has any advice re this? We are not sure whether to apply to hotels/bars/restaurants seperately or just go with the mountain. Apparently you get good discounts when you work for the mountain especially on lift passes.
Again, any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
I worked the 04/05 season in Whistler and worked for the mountain. I would definately recommend it. you get a free season pass and 25-50% discount on food and gear (in certain places).
You also get priority over others on staff housing, which is a lot cheaper than renting privately!
I worked as a sales ticketing host (printed corporate lift tickets), I did 4 days a week, 10 hours a day, it suited me fine as you get 3 days on the mountain!
I started applying for jobs in about September but you need to make sure you have your visa. I was already living over though, I lived in Vancouver during the summer so I could just take the bus up there for my interviews!
I'm very jealous, you'll have a ball!!!
I have my working visa ready for 08 and wanted to know how much your likely to make working in the mountains?
