You mean like the birth of Christ ? I'm almost sure it was pagan....

It is a long story but basically the Church poached a lot of pagan feasts because they were more popular than their own. Christ was not in fact born at Christmas. There are a number of pagan feasts that happened at that time.
Easter was also poached. But for some reason the chruch did not want Halloween.

I knew you were going to say that.

I was more thinking along the lines, that the 25th of December is supposed to be the birth day of Mithrad, and not of Jesus. Mithrad as people might (or might not know) was a person who had a lot of the same stories attached to him as Jesus (and with them maybe 30 or 40 other persons, who life's biography sound simalar to that of Jesus of Nazareth. (it is rumoured that the Vatican is actualy build on the site of a church dedicated to Mithrad!)

As the birthday of Jesus is not known, the Christians claimed the 25th of December to celibrate the birth of Jesus. And I still hate them for it. Couldn't they have chosen a day in the summer, so we can have a bbq with christmas, like the Ozzies.

@ Utrecht:
Santa lives in Rovaniemi, in Finland. My whole plan was to melt the polar ice, so polar bears would come to the continent. They would be attracted by a drunk reindeer (why else is his nose red ;) ), and attack the Santa Village outside of Rovaniemi. Greenpeace activists would then spray the Polar bears Brown, so they can live happily in the woods of Scandinavia as a normal Brown Bear. I would say a perfect plan.

Is Mithrad a pagan Herr Bert? I bet he is since I never heard of him.
Pagans are so much easier to live with than the others.
They dont go around bragging and they dont disturb the whole neighbourhood with bell ringing and wailing from Mosques. ;)

If you believe the stories (myths), then he was someone just like Jesus. (Being a messiah, healing people, resurrection etc.) So if he would have been chosen the one-true son of god by some Roman Emperor, I am pretty sure the bell ringing would still be going on but then in name of Mithrad, instead of Jesus. And if we would have been having this discussion, I am pretty shure, that you would have asked if Jesus was a pagan.

Why is the one who was chosen called Jesus and Christ?
