Hello, I'll be heading down from Nha trang into Saigon in about two days, and wanted to know what people enjoyed the most while they were there. I know I'm gonna check out the war atrocities museum, and also the cu chi tunnels, but what else should I see if I'm there for about two or three days.
Also, I'll be heading into Cambodia after that, and have been considering going by the Mekong instead of taking a bus. Anyone gone this route and have any advice or suggestions? Thank you.
Take a look at my VN photos. I think a one day delta tour is worth your time. Gets you out of HCMC and has many good photos ops.
I took the bus: HCMC-PP but many take the river as well. Stop in any of the many travel shops and chat up the staff about going via river. Ask the other Bpers you meet about going via river to PP. Someone you meet will have done it. Wish I was there myself.
In Saigon I think its more about the whole vibe than it is about specific sites. You'll hear a lot about Ben Than (the market which once again I've probably spelled wrong) but its pretty much like every other asian market. The War Crimes museum is ok and you'll see some nice palaces and architecture but really I think you want to just walk the various neighborhoods and enjoy the food, music and atmosphere.
That being said I loved Saigon and met a ton of people there.
Get drunk with the locals drinking biere hoi everyone sells it in Saigon . Its great to sit on the streets with people watching the world go by drinking home brew and eating food from street venders .I fould a nice little pool also if you just want to chill and get away from the petrol fumes , its calles Lan Anh it about 10 min drive from the back packer area and its mainly just Vietnamese who go there (if you want to get away from backpackers) There are some good night spots in saigon also , but the bigger clubs charge western prices and its mainly Vietnamese who go to them mostly rich kids partying . There is a water park just outside of Saigon also i did not go but seen signs for it . Thre are a few markets to visit with lots of clothes footwear etc .
