Hi, I really need Advice!

I am going to South East Asia for a month 15th Dec to 15th Jan. I went to Thailand for 3 weeks last year and came back on 16th Dec. Last time I didn't book anything in advance and took one day at a time, I had a great time because of this. But I didn't book one room or flight in advance. I didn't even struggle to find accomedation on Koh Phangan over the full moon.

I want to do this as well this time so I decide where to go on a day by day basis. I am thinking of going to Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. After reading up it appears flights and accomedation can get booked out in advance and I don't really want to catch buses. Think I'm going to book in advance for Koh Phangan over Christmas, but may risk the rest.

The places I'm thinking of going are Samui, Koh Phangan, Phuket, Phi Phi, Vientienne, Vang Vieng, Siem Reap and Shinoukeville.

Please help me with any advice if you have been to any of these place over peak season.

Thanks

Rob

Four of us spent 3 weeks last January in North Thailand, Laos & Cambodia. We found accommodation easily without booking everywhere except Vientianne. We stayed in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Mai Salong, Hauy Xai, Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng and Siem Reap.
We used backpacker level mostly with occasional flaskpacker.
We got into Vientianne about sunset from Vang Vieng and after 2 hours searching round the centre of town we could only find a really cheap, filthy place. We found a good Chinese place for the next night though

I've been to Koh Pha Ngan over Christmas before and turned up 3 or 4 days before the Full Moon and still found somewhere to stay. That was 3 years ago so it might be busier now (and also I'm not fussy about the standard of accomodation). If you're planning to stay at Haad Rin then it might be best to book in advance, but if you're not fussy about what beach you stay at then you should find somewhere to stay no problem.

I'm off to Haad Rin again on Monday so I can let you know how busy it is.

you shouldn't have any problems. I never did and was there at the same time of year.

Thanks for your reply's, I'm thinking I want to stay in Haad Rin so will prob book in advance for Koh Phangan. I don't care what standard it is!

Please tell me if it's busy when you get there.

Anymore advice is much welcome:)

I'm in Haad Rin now and it's not as busy as I thought it would be for this time of year. There's still quite a lot of people here but nowhere is fully booked yet, and the clubs are just averagely full on a night-time.

The place I usually stay at have put there prices up though, in anticipation of it getting really busy over Christmas/Full Moon, so it might be best to pre book, just to be on the safe side.

It's starting to get pretty busy now in Haad Rin and some places are putting their prices up, but nowhere seems to be fully booked yet (they usually put signs up and nowhere has signs up yet).

It might be best to pre-book anyway though, cos like I say it's definitely getting busier, especially down the beach on a night-time.

hi there im travelling in asia at the moment we have been going since the 3rd of oct and havn't booked a thing in advance yet and no probs at all, maybe worth booking something for crimbo day depending where you are. You get better prices walking into places. I have been to all the place on you list and all i can say is spend the vast majority of your time in Laos and cambodia! Loas Vang Vianne is awsome you need min 3 full days there to enjoy it and of couse tubing rocks! Sihanoukville is very good great atmostphere in the bars on the beach.

It is not really peak season in loas or cambodia just thailand. Thailand is getting very busy and the prices are going up everywhere.

Enjoy your trip
