I'm so jealous!
But seriously you should cut out the home time, unless there is a particular reason, and spend the extra time in India (cos u seem to have enough in SA). Have your R&R in Costa Rica! How fun I hope you have and awesome time... a couple years off work!!! Who wouldn't want that? :)

Think you should definitely add more time in S/E Asis, depending on the time of year you plan on being there, Mid November to late April is beautiful! 7-8 weeks will give you enough time to do the Thailand, Lao, Vietnam and Cambodia circuit.
Especially if your going to be in China, flights are so cheap, you could fly to Chang Mai, Thailand and spend time doing the golden triangle, plenty of good jungle treks and hill top tribes, then fly/bus to Vientiane, Lao and head up to Vang Vieng, hit the rapids on the river or just float around in your tyre tube and drink. Bus it up to Luang Prabang, I've heard its a beautiful city, from here you could fly to Hanoi, Vietnam or cruise down the Mekong back down to Vientiane and fly to Hanoi from there, or if your enjoying the cruising keep going all the way to Cambodia.
Catching a train down the coast of Vietnam from Hanoi you can get on and off where you want, have heard that it has some of the best beaches in the world. Train goes all the way to Ho chi min city.
Cambodia and Angkor wat are then within easy reach. Even with 8 weeks you will be missing a lot but its a good first taste.
This is a trip that I have partly done, and look forward to completing it!
