Ever wanted to learn a new language? If so, what and why?

I've always wanted to learn German and Spanish. German because my father used to recieve post cards from his friends in Germany (he studied for some time there) and what was written in them intrigued me. Spanish because I want to understand what my grandmother says whenever she's angry hehe. Nah, Spanish just sounds sexy...

I've thought about learning Russian too as my friend and I used to use the the alphabet to write code letters but I'd probably focus on the first two first.

Hello Redhaze:)

Those are exactly the 2 I learned.
I am not very good with learning languages but I have learned Spanish and Germany as best I can.
German because I live in Germany. Spanish because I learned some at school and then I learned some more when I was travelling in S. America.
Spanish and German are a good 2 to learn simultaneouly. They are not similiar so less chance of confusing them when u are speaking.

I learnt German in university, cos it was compulsory for us to take cross-faculty modules and I chose to take a language that would be more interesting and useful in the long run rather than taking some random subject module for the sake of meeting requirements and then forgetting everything later. We had some strange bidding system in school and German 'cost' less than French, plus I was a little turned off by the number of people who wanted French classes.

Turned out to be a wise choice cos the lessons were fantastic and really fun! I also spent a month taking a summer course in Germany few years back and stayed with a host family whom I'm still very much in contact with. I've visited them once since then and I'm looking forward to see them again next summer when I'm in Europe.

Oh and I took Malay too, but only for one semester as I couldn't fit German into my timetable.

I love learning foreign languages!

I speak Dutch (and the local dialect), German and English. In class I couldn't care to learn French, but now I am busy to learn Spanish. (I did have one year of Spanish in school, but that was not a big success).
