My wife and I are visiting Beijing, Shanghai and Xi'an in May. We have friends that just returned from a similar trip and told of terrible head aches and breathing difficulties because of air pollution. Has anyone else had these problems
They are senior citizens and so are we.
Beacause winter is coming, there were strong winds, flying dust in Beijing and Xian, but in April, May, Sep., Oct. the weather is so good in China, wonderful season for travel to China.
Don't worry about it.

Nomatter when, I heard that Beijing's air pollution is the worst.
Pollution is really bad, especially in Beijing. I am a smoker yet always get a raspy throat in Beijing. Xi'an should be a bit better, and Shanghai too.
Jon, we went in August, five years ago, and although I still remember the colour of the sky and the sweet smell of smog, we had no problem, including our son, who has asthma. So I think it's a bit of a lottery and maybe down to how much time you spend there.
I'd spend more time not drinking the local water.
