I will be arriving in Hong Kong at about 11pm for 9 days alone and have no idea which would be the best place to stay. I am looking for budget hotels that are nice. Is it advisable to get one near the airport?
Any advice would be great!
There is not really much around the airport, so personally I wouldn't waste your time around there. Hong Kong is a 24 hour city so you wont have any problems getting into the centre at that time of night. You can either get the Airport Express tube train, which is very efficient and costs around £6 or £7 i think, or take a taxi from the airport. I don't know for sure but I guess this would cost about £20 to Kowloon - its a fair distance but taxis are very cheap in hong kong.
As for hotels, it depends how cheap you want to go. The cheapest places to stay are on Nathan Road, where there are loads of budget guesthouses, but don't expect any degree of luxury! I actually found that if you book through one of the hong kong travel agents (just do a search on google), its possible to find more than adequte three star hotels for virtually the same price as a lot of the guesthouses.
Personally I would stay on the Hong Kong Island side rather than Kowloon, but that said there are some great areas on both sides.
accomodation in HK can be very expensvie. Stayed in HK for several months for language studies.

Rooms are clean but very small. It is located next to the MTR Station Jordan (which gives you a quick access to almost all places in HongKong) in a quite area and stop for the airport express is only a few meters away. There will be no breakfast or drinks to buy, but hot water is available for free. And 7-11 shops, pacific coffee or any other supermarket are nearby. Next to the accomodation is Kowloon park, Nathan road and the night market.
I can really recommend this place!
