- Backpacking, hiking, camping. All activities are tremendously popular in Canada. There is even a trail that runs the whole extreme length of the country; coast to coast- with connector trails to the extreme north. The ' Trans- Canada Trail '.
- Hitch- hiking is also very common in Canada, altho nowhere near as ' popular ' as it was back in the 60's & 70's. For sure single women hitching solo have been murdered- there are 6 ( I believe ) homicides still unsolved from the highway 16 region of B.C.
- I have hitch- hiked across Canada- both ways, and hopped freights across a good portion of the country.

It all depends on what you want to see. The Appalachian Trial might be fun, but definitely very rural - and it would require camping. If looking for more populated areas I wonder about backpaking down the West Coast - Washington down to California - more populated than the southwest, but I think you could stay away from big cities and such and just hit a bunch of small towns if you wanted.
