Im currently in Thailand, and decided to go to Nepal from mid December until the first week of January. I just made this decision, but I have no idea about Nepal, only that it looks great on pictures and it seems a great place to explore.

Any tips from experiences in Nepal???? What I shouldnt miss and what should I know???? Is it safe for a female to travel alone there (sorry, i had to ask)??

I will surely appreciate any reply to this thread, I cant wait to get there!!!

Hi Diana,

I am Shrawan Magar, from Nepal. And I work for Travel and tour Agency in Nepal. Well, its very good that you are planning to visit Nepal, in this season. Its best time to trek around lower himalayan region in Nepal and explore the culture that have been unchanged for centuries, and gorgeous landscape. It would be my pleasure to help you get best trekking region in Nepal. and the national & international flight details to and from Nepal. And it is also the good to visit Chitwan and Pokhara in this season, and explore the wildlife of the Chitwan on elephant ride, which is very famous in Chitwan, you would get to see One horn Rihno in its wild and natural habitat. One horned Rhino is one of the extinct animal on earth, preserved in the Chitwan National Park. And in Pokhara you would get to relax and view the beautiful himalayan senaries and fewa lake and many water falls.

May I ask you what have you planed to do in Nepal, I can provide you list of details that are famous in Nepal for tourists and would be very glad to do it.

And , yes its is very safe for women and men both, besides there will be guide and helper to help you with your trails and other queries. Its perfectly safe.

My personal recommendation would be, go for short duration trek and then visit Chitwan to explore wildlife and Culture of indigenous, which you would find very different from rest of Nepal. And then Kathmandu, Nagarkot, Dhulikhel, Pokhara too.

Kathmandu Capital City of Nepal
The Valley is situated of 1,336 m. above the sea level and covers an area of 218 sq. miles. The Current weather of Kathmandu is 5-6c(min) - 17-19c(max). The rich Tapestry of the culture heritage of Nepal is synthesized in the Kathmandu Valley, the home of the ancient and sophisticated Newari culture. THe Newars are the indigenous of the valley and the creators of the ancient city. The skillfully-built temples and palaces, delicately-engraved stone and metal images, carved wooden columns and pillars.

Nagarkot Hill resort
Nagarkot is popular tourist resort of Nepal. It is situated 32 km. east of Kathmandu at an altitude of 2,175 m. above sea level. The panaroma of the major peaks of the eastern Nepal Hiamalaya including Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) can be seen from here. Nagarkot famous for sunrise and sunset viewing.

Dhulikhel
This ancient town is situated 30km east of Kathmandu on the side of the Arniko Rajmarga (Kathmandu-Kodari Highway). The Newar town of Dhulikhel offers a traditional atmosphere along with spectacular views. Once an important link in the ancient trade route to Tibet, Dhulikhel has glorious past which can be seen in the lovely buildings and intricate wood carvings in the shop-lined streets and temples. Pleasant climate (even in Summer) is big attraction at Dhulikhel.

Pokhara
Pokhara, an enchanting city nestled in the tranquil valley (827m), is starting point for many of Nepal's most popular trekking and rafting destinations. THe serenity of Phewa Lake and the magnificence of the fish-tail summit of Machchhapuchhare (6,977m) rising behind it create an ambience of peace and magic. THe gushing rivers, clear lakes and the world famous views of Himalaya. Situated 200km west of Kathmandu, Pokhara is connected by air as well as by road from Kathmandu and many other cities. Pokhara offers magnificent views of Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Machchha-puchhre, five peaks of Annapurna and others.

Other Places in Nepal:
Bandipur- beautiful scenery, many ancient temples
Lumbini- Birth place of Lord Buddha, pilgrimage destination, Indian Emperor Ashoka's comme-morative Pillar, listed as World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Sacred Garden Spread over 8sq km and possesing all the treasures os the historic area. To the south of the pillar we find the sacred pond, Puskarni, where Queen Mayadevi had taken a bath just before giving birth to Buddha.

I will in list other places if wish to know about them as well.

I hope this information will be good help for you,
Thank you and Merry Christmas!!!

Regards,
Shrawan Magar,
Kathmandu, Nepal.

I stayed in the Thamel area of Kathmandu. This area was popular with backpackers and other tourists. Several decent restaurants, lots and lots of travel agents offering tours to many areas. Hotel prices were pretty good. Basic hotels on up to more luxury rooms were available.
