Anyway- My main grumble for today is I have got 3/4 of the way through the proposal for my main final year assignment on preventing the spread of clostridium difficile and decided its crap (ha ha ha gedditt) and its not the best subject and I'm going to scrap it and start again on something different about recognising the critically ill patient.

Just read your post....PLEEEEEEASE continue to look into the prevention of C - Diff...I am one of the poor sods that have to clean up the stinking mess! My hands are raw with the constant scrubbing and I also have a runny nose...not the best thing at this time as you can imagine! Maybe if I just plug it with the vaseline?

Recognising a critically ill patient..they look sick and don't get better.

(Another frown is that I cannot get to grips with this quoting business, I am sure there is an easy way)

Absolutely gutted - my dad was supposed to leave the uk today to come and see me in NZ, but his flight was cancelled because of the snow. he's been advised that he won't be able to leave for another week due to flights being full.

How can a country grind to a halt after a few inches of snow?!

My friend from New York was supposed to arrive here tonight but his flight was cancelled. Luckily, he got on a new flight and will be arriving tomorrow morning.

That's because they were ill prepared even with the forecast days before it happened!

Exactly - it really is pathetic. The government say it doesn't happen often enough to justify having gritting machines etc on standby, but we get bad snow fairly often and it's the same story each time.

Glad your friend is ok.

This week has been so so so bitter sweet last weekend was great but by far Wed was one of the most emotionally stressful days lve ever gone through, my boyfriend of only 5 months has had to go off for 6mths to work - he's a solider therefore you can work out where he's likely to have gone! My friends have been amazing and to be honest even people l have only met once or twice have been wonderful but hell this is tough and l know in the grand scheme of things 6 months isnt that long a time, its already March for goodness sake but right now Sept seems such a long way away

I wish you all the best Heather. I understand you perfectly. Although I am the one going away travelling (I leave home in 1,5 hours from now), it feels akward to say goodbye to my girlfriend for 4 weeks. But that's only 4 weeks of course. Makes me happy and just a bit sad. Not that it's going to spoil anything though.
Again, hope you will feel fine and all the best to you!

I send you lots of hugs, Heather! {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{Heather}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

It's hard and you'll miss him tons, but time will fly and you'll look forward to all those calls and letters and emails and before you know it he'll be home again. When it gets really hard, just imagine meeting him at the airport when he gets back. That always helped for me. Remember how much he'll be thinking of you, too.

Yup - more hugs and a pitcher of martinis for you, H!!! {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Think of it this way - the dog will be your best friend, not his, by the time he returns - so you got that goin' for ya. Also, you'll have time with his son and he'll scoop you on the phone calls. The time will pass quickly though it doesn't feel that way at the moment. ;)

Heather, I can totally relate to what you're going through. I have been with my boyfriend for six months now and he was away the first time on a business trip for this whole week. It seems pathetic because it was only a week and not six months, but the first two days I was missing him so much that I could hardly think about anything else, but for some reason the feeling got different after a while and it wasn't so bad in the end. I also noticed that when we talked on the phone (daily of course ) that we had really wonderful conversations about what's been happening in our lives and I kind of felt we were getting even closer. I hate to say it but absence makes the heart grow fonder. And just us Tina suggested always look forward to how great it's going to be, when you see each other again.

And let me tell you one more story. A really close friend of mine met an American soldier a couple of years back, they fell in love and became a couple. A year into the relationship he got sent to Iraq and they could not see each other for a whole year. Everyone thought the relationship would not last because of the difficult circumstances, but they prove everyone wrong and kept in touch by phone, emails and letters and eventhough it was incredibly hard for both of them things worked out in the end. The minute he returned, he proposed to her and they have been happily married ever since! So, you never know you could see it as the last six months before settling down with the man you love ;).

Big hug coming your way!

Steff
