My mate and I are heading over to London in June 08 and then plan to travel ne where and everywhere from there. I have heard that you can buy cheap camper vans or cars in london has ne 1 done this or know how hard it is for someone to buy a car in England? In terms of licencing etc. Also is it a cheaper alternative to travel by rail plane etc.
I'm thinking of doing the same myself. My friends and I are hoping to get a loan of a friends jeep and drive around Europe.
Second hand cars in England are much better cared for than here in Ireland and shouldn't be too expensive. We too are considering inter-railing, for 300 euro you can pretty much travel all over Europe for 3 or 4 weeks. I wouldnt bother wit planes once you reach Europe. Its easier to get around by train and you would see much more.
From what ive heard, if you you just want to see the large cities, using the rail network is easiest but if you plan on seeing more of Europe a car may be better. My father went around Europe in a fiat 26 years ago and said it went well. Then again slot of my friends have gone inter-railing and found it excellent fun.
Can't offer much practical advice. I'll be looking carefully this thread myself!!
I think i will have to wait till i get there and then work out wats best from there, it would be a big advantage to have a car though as you say easier to get to small cities etc, plus its somewhere to sleep if you get desperate and if u find some travellers heading the same place u can always split the fuel bill. How much do u think a cheap car would be roughly?? Would u beable to get something for around 300 pounds? i know your from ireland but though u might have some idea
not 2 sure. 300 sounds a bit cheap, maybe nearer to 500.
think my friends and I are going to have to buy a van or something now. we were going to get a loan of a jeep bt seems to have fallen through.
