i am going to hong kong in jan 08 and have decided (through much debate) to go straight to kowloon, and nathan road wherei have booked our hotel. Was wondering how long it takes to get from HK international to nathan road and what is the best way to get there!
From the airport to Kowloon, it takes you less than an hour by Airbus.
Is your hotel in Mong Kong? Do you have the address?
Sorry, Mong Kok not Mong Kong.
Thai wan hotel, Flat A5, 3 Floor, Block A, Chung King Mansions, No, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon
it is not actually booked right now but will be soon, unless you have any other advice or tips. Or any reccomendations where is best.
There is an airport train which will take about 25 minutes to the Kowloon station. But it costs about 90 HK dollar, which is 12-13 USD. And after arriving in Kowloon you still have to take a taxi or walk for aprox 20 minutes to Nathan Road.
Although it requires 2 switches you can take the airport express to Tsing Yi, take the MTR to Lai King and switch to the red line shown on this map. Don't worry, it sounds more difficult than it is.
You can take the Jordan Road exit I guess, where Chungking Mansions is a short walk away.
It will probably take around 5-10 minutes more than the direct airport express (so about 30-35 minutes total) but it is cheaper. And faster than the airport bus. And more fun by the way
If there's more than one of you travelling you can get a big reduction on the price of airport train tickets by buying a special multipack from the info desk rather than buying them seperately from a machine. They come in 2s and 4s.
I'm a local in Hong Kong. I'll take Bus usually. Just follow the instruction at the airport (u'll have no way to get lost) to the bus stations. Then take A21 bus (From Airport to Hung Hom Station). It takes you around 40 mins on the bus. Its not the most direct one, but it gives u a glance of the most crowded area in Kowloon (Mongkok).
Take off at 'Peking Road'. Or simply ask the driver / passengers where to get off.
Your hostel is in Chungking Mansion. but in Cantonese, the pronunciation is a bit different. so if u'r trying to ask somebody, try to read it as 'Chung - Hing Mansion'. haha, that is a very fun building. some of my overseas friends like that a lot. Its a very mingled building, with lots of Indian, African... U'll find the best curry in the building! It looks a bit ghetto, but its a fun place.
