We have left it MEGA late but is there any way of us getting to Ko Samui and then to Ko Phangan from Surat Thani on the 31st December? We have a flight landing at Surat Thani at 1200pm but we imagine it'll take an hour to get bags and stuff - will we have enough time to get a bus/ferry across when we land or do u think they will be full?

we know we can book in advance for the ko samui - phangnan part, its getting to samui from surat that's the problem!!!! can anyone help????

Hello MarkBate24:)

The boats go very often to Koh Samui and from there to Koh Pha Ngan and several companies run them so I seriously doubt that there wont be enough despite it being New Years Eve.
When u get to Surat Thani beware of taxi drivers. Make sure u need a taxi before u take one(they are sure to tell u that u are in the wrong place and need them to take u some place else to get a boat ticket. Also travel agents will provide transport to the pier after u buy a boat ticket so u dont need a taxi for that either) and have some idea of what it should cost.
If Koh PhaNgan is the destination u really want there may not be a need to go to Koh Samui first. I think the boats run directly to Koh PhaNgan now.

Mac1234 reminds me of something. Not all the boats to Koh PhaNgan go to Haad Rin Pier.
Make sure u choose one that does if that is where the party is.

If you get a ferry to Thong Sala (the main ferry destination for Koh Pha ngan) it's no problem to get a taxi to Had Rin though. They run every 15 minutes from the roundabout next to the ferry port and cost 50 Baht for tourists. You might find touts trying to get you to take a taxi through them as you get off the ferry, and that's fair enough, but make sure you only pay 50 Baht cos that's what it costs from the roundabout.

Excellent advice thanks - we booked a coach/ferry ride from Bangkok to Ko Phangan which takes 11hours and it will take us right to Thong Sala - we'll get a taxi to hat Rin, thanks....

We're going to be landing at 12pm on NYE so we'll not get any rooms but we're not really planning to sleep to be honest!
