Hi all

Right here we go....I'm very close to paying for my RTW ticket and have just about sorted my itinary, however I'm still not sure on one part of my trip, originally I planned on travelling across land from Singapore up through Malaysia and into Thailand but have since heard about serious problems in the southern provinces of Thailand. According to it's a big no no....what do they know!!!!
I'm now considering flying from Kuala Lumpa (think thats how you spell it!) to Phuket then carrying on across land to Vietnam, I would prefer not to do this as it will use one of the flights on my ticket that I could use later on and more importantly I will miss out a big chunk of my trip.
Has anyone got any thoughts on this?
Maybe some of you have crossed this border?
Is it really that bad?

No worries. If you take train, you will go through Padang Besar checkpoint. And if you take bus, you will go through Sadao checkpoint. These 2 checkpoints are much safer than the other 2 at the East side (Sungai Kolok & Tak Bai Chekcpoint). Just try to avoid provinces like Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani as there are series of bombings and shootings. Sadao and Padang Besas checkpoints are in Songkla province. Although they are neighbours, but they are much safer than the others. Many travellers travel by train. You can see them at the Padang Besar checkpoint everyday at the train station.
