hey all, me and my mate are going to sydney for new years, along with the rest of australia!, we have been told that circular key will be ram packed, so can anyone recommend any places to stand where we can drink (alcohol) and isnt to busy?, we were told you can go to greewich lookout which is close to manly, but we arnt sure, can anyone help! thanks and merry xmas dave
around the harbour is certainly packed, but if you are prepared to get there early you should get a good spot and it's definitely worth it. we arrived around 1ish and found a great place on the grass near Mrs Maquaries point. you can buy alcohol in there I think but I heard of people taking a box of wine in without the box, ie just the foil bag, and getting away with it. Manly might be good but its quite a way from Circular Quay so you won't get the atmosphere.
if you go to bondi, there is a golf course on top of the beach where you will see 3 (if not more) different fire works going on in sydney. It's busy mostly down at the beach but if you make your way to the top of the cliff near the golf course - it is gold!
I live in Sydney and I must admit, I'm a bit over standing with 1 million other people watching fireworks.
Having said that, this link is from the Sydney City Council and has all sorts of information on New Year's Eve in Sydney
