Hi there

I'm travelling to New York, Vancouver and LA next June. How much budget should I calculate per day during my trip?

Thanks
Tinka

Hi Tinka,

It depends what sort of accommodation you're looking for (motels/dorm rooms etc) and how you plan to travel. I rented a car and stayed mostly in motels in the USA as most hostels seemed to be in city centres and were generally full at that time of year. On average 2 of us spent about £70 per day, which is £35 each, being $70 USA each a day. This was more that we actually expected it to be, and the most expensive country on our RTW trip. Just bear in mind that its not too common to find a kitchen in your hostel in the USA, so food can cost a bit more as its harder to prepare your own. We lived on sandwiches to save money!

Have a brilliant time!

I'd say $60US a day should get you by if you mainly stick to supermarket food and stay in hostels. It would also depend on if you wanted to see all the attractions and go to any of the themeparks in Los Angeles. If you do want to go to themeparks, then add $15 a day on to that budget and that should cover you. When you go to Los Angeles, you should try and add 4 or 5 days on and then head across to Las Vegas. Las Vegas is a much more eye opening experience than LA and will be far more fondly remembered.

Thank you so much for your replies!
I actually planned approx 100$ a day budget (I will stay in hostels but maybe go for dinner or so once in a while). So I see, I am def on the safe side!
