I didn't realise what a pain it was going to be getting the correct backpack for me and I can't find a decent store anywhere. I have done lot's of searching on the net but after some very sound advice from you guys ventured into some major stores including Blacks and Millets but on the whole found them very unhelpful. Lots of people have been saying to get the store to put weight in the pack but I still haven't found a store that will do that for me. Also I always get the feeling the sales staff are just trying to flog the newest more expensive models and couldn't care less if I got the correct fitting and right size for my trip.

I live in the southwest of England and work in the London area and would love to hear if anyone has any good things to say about stores in these areas.

Thanks for reading my moan!!!

I'm a Kiwi so I'm not sure whether I'm gonna be of any help to you - but do you guys have the store Kathmandu in the UK? We have them in NZ/Aussie, and as far as I've experienced, the staff are well trained, knowledgeable and WILL help you to fit a pack correctly. They let you try out a range of packs that appeal to you, advise on what's best suited for your travels and then adjust the frame and straps to suit your body. Hopefully there's a Kathmandu store in London for you.......thought it was worth a shot anyway lol

Just been to Bristol's store myself and I'll second hey_monkee's advice. Very helpful staff and if you get there quick they have their sale galore!!

Cheers for the advice guys

Went to Kathmandu store in Bristol and as I walked up Park street I noticed another travel shop called NOMAD, thought I would give it a try and they were excellent. Very helpful, put weights in the bag, knew what they were talking about and didn't try and sell me the jalan 60+15 for a change
The sales girl was hot as well as an added bonus!!
Ended up with the Lowe Alpine en route 60+10 and I couldn't happier with it, just looking forward to getting it on the road now....8 weeks to go

we have also found Ellis Brigham to be sooo helpful when buying a backpack so I would recommend them if you have a local store. They certainly did the whole weighing down thing and spent around an hour with us going over various options and giving great advice.
