Hey, guys!

I am a lovely Chinese & recently planning to travel to Thailand on CNY holiday. 6 days holiday, I don't want to waste it home.

I have never been gone abroad, this time I am thinking about Tailand. My budget is small, so I think Tailand can be a good target!

Anyway, this is my first plan, anyone wants to join ? Or any advices when travel pls? Like, visa=headache thing, where to try the dilicious food, beautiful places to search ? where is safe & where is not safe for a girl~~haha~~~~so much about that I wish to know, hope anyone can give me more suggestion on that!!!

Appreciate& thanks!!!!!!! ^^

For food, try roadside stalls. They serve good and cheap food.

And there will be scammers around in Bangkok especially around Khaosan Rd area. Just say NO to them in a nice way and everything will be fine.;)

Hi Kathy,

I think Thailand sounds like a good plan. There is loads to see and do and you should be fine as a girl on your own. Do beware of scams though, as opospa said. If a tuk tuk driver or taxi driver tells you a place is closed or 'no good' or something similar, the chances are this is not true and they just want to take you somewhere where they will get commission.

If you only have 6 days you could spend a couple in bangkok and then some on the beaches on one of the islands nearby such as Ko Samet or Ko Chang. Or could visit Ayutthaya or Kanchanaburi nearby.

Kathy,
I am going to suggest that you look at VietNam as well. Thailand is beautiful and has many things worth seeing, but has millions of tourists each year. VN is cheaper, far fewer tourists and perhaps a better option for CYN. VN is also very safe for a single female.

I have many photos of each country in my gallery. Send me a PM if you want to discuss your trip.

In Bangkok my preference for you is to stay in an area that is not too far from a Skytrain stop. You can use the Skytrain to take you to many areas of Bangkok cheap and easy.

If you mention how much you want to spend on a hotel per night you can get some specific recommendations. Meanwhile you can check out the Suk 11 Hostel located on Sukhumvit Soi 11 for your stay. (http://www.suk11.com/) They have several price ranges. The Nana Skytrain is pretty close to this area. Business Inn on Sukumvit Soi 11/1 has "no window" rooms starting at 600 baht that have A/C. (Ask for email address if you need it, can't post it on this board.) You must request the 600 baht room!

You only have 6 days, you will lose one day coming and going that only leaves you a few to check out Bangkok. You might consider a couple nights/days in Pattaya. Pattaya has a long beach front, but best to swim in a hotel pool. Pattaya is less than 130 baht for the bus ride and the hotels are cheaper than Bangkok. The Skytrain can connect you to the Ekamai bus station.

Read up on Thailand and plan your moves. You don't have much time for long distance travel to too many places.

Good luck.

Even though it is close to Bangkok, I would not suggest Pattaya for an asian girl travelling solo! This could be a recipe for disaster (or at least some humiliation) as she may be treated like an object, at least in the built up areas. A friend of mine said she experienced this on a holiday to Pattaya (she was Thai).

I agree with the sky train in Bangkok though, very handy staying near there!

In my opinion Chiang Mai would be great, it's a fair trip but you might be able to fly back to China from Chiang Mai? Would be great if you could do this! Chiang Mai is a nice little city with a lot of shops and also great day trips up north where the landscape is very green and hilly. Either this or Phuket where you could take a trip to Phi Phi island and you may also be able to fly directly to China from this location.

I recommend you stay in Khaosan road because this area is near China town, Wat PhraKheaw, Wat Pho, Wat Arun, etc.

From Khaosan road, you can go to weekend market (chatuchak market) by bus directly. Or MBK... I don't know how to go there by bus but I think if you take taxi and traffic is not so bad, it may not more than 100 baht.

For trip in some wherelse, you can go to Ayutthaya where is the ancient capital of Thailand, or Hua Hin where has beach in 1 day trip.

I agree with Erik. I love Pattaya, but it is not a great place for women. Too many guys on the hunt for cheap sex. Pass on Pattaya Kathy. I liked Chiang Mai as well, but it is not 'little' anymore. Thailand's second largest city. Chiang Rai maybe a better fit for you if you want fewer tourists. I still think you should invetigate VietNam for your CNY. Your money will go further there. Good Luck.
