I was previously planning on spending most of the summer wandering around Europe, but since I now only have 2-3 weeks available, I decided to stick to just one country, and am thinking tht one country should be Greece. I would be there the last week of May and the first one or two weeks of June. How would island hopping be at that time? Has summer break even started for Europeans yet? Is Greece relatively inexpensive to travel in? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated! I will be 18 at the time, if that helps.
I did some island hopping in Greece last year around the same time you were thinking about going, it was really wonderful!! The weather was beatiful and not to hot, yet, the islands were not packed full of people (still had plenty of youths on them though). The hostels were quite cheap I didn't pay over 12 euros a night in youth hostels the entire time in the islands. I would suggest going to Santorini and Ios. Ios is crazy to party at, I would suggest Far Out Beach Club, Its right on the beach, with pools and very cheap.
Hey, I'm doing Island Hopping at exactly this time I will be there from May 22nd-June 4th. I start with 3 days in Athens, then 3 days in Mykonos, 3 days in Santorini, and 3 days in Ios, then back to Athens to fly back to the US. From what I've heard on other travel sites this is as good a time as any to go to Greece, and I've been seeing great reviews of the Islands. Santorini is supposed to be gorgeous with beautiful sunsets and there is also a volcano to see there. Mykonos definately has the opportunity to go out and have some fun on the beach. Ios is also a great place to party I've heard. In Athens I plan on getting my dose of culture and history by going places like the Acropolis. Also I think Greece is a popular destination for younger people, so being 18 would be fine. I will only be 21 while I'm traveling there. Message me if you'd like to discuss travel plans, I did my trip through Contiki.
