Hey everyone,

I'm heading to thailand as part of a group in June. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on what we can do out there?

We are interested in beaches, jungle treks, elephant rides (all the usual thailand stuff really). Also if anyone has done something very similar could you let us know where you went and when, we are trying to put an itinery together now but don't want to be going on overnight journeys every 2 or 3 days if possible.

Also we are looking at taking 4 or 5 days out and heading to another nearby country which has something different to offer that thailand doesnt so if anyone has any ideas then please let us know.

Cheers

Hi I would defintely go to Koh Phangan. You can do all of the things you mention there. Also you can choose from isolated beaches and the nightlife and party area of Haad Rin (the south of the island). It is an island where you can easliy spend months so if you want to avoid wasting a lot of time travelling I would pick one nice spot and not try to see as much as possible in a short time.

For the other country I would go to either Laos or Cambodia.

Good luck!

Bangkok : floating market, Muay-Thai (Lumpini Stadium), markets (Chatuchak, pratunam,...), Royal Palace, wats, China Town, Khao San, ...
Other places: Chiang Mai (tribes, treking, waterfalls, elephant riding,...), Phuket, Phi-Phi (beach, party, diving, muay-thai camp, massage, spa...).
Ayuthaya, Chieng Kong, Pattaya...

For the whole Thailand you need 1 year...jejeje. Many things to do.

FOr the beaches, I recommend HuaHin. It's not far from Bkk, quiet place (compare with Pattaya) and easy to go there. Anyway, if you like night life, Pattaya is better. But the beach in Pattaya is dirty :(

In Ayutthaya has elephant ridding for visit a few ancient temples. Ayutthaya is not far from Bkk, just 2-3 h by train. ANd the most popular activity in Ayutthaya is bicycles riding to visit many ancient temples. You can stay overnight in there because the atmosphere in there in day time and night time is different, I think.

FLoating market is the one of many places you should not miss it. ;)

And treaking, I recommend KhaoYai National Park. There are many activities in there, bird seeing, butterfly seeing, waterfalls, camping, etc. They also have mountain bike for rent.
