Hello! I am currently reading for my Masters Degree in MSc Marketing. I am required to write a dissertation to complete this degree.

The topic of my dissertation is “The low cost strategy adopted by airlines. Is this approach likely to succeed among all age groups (young groups and old groups)?"

Would you please help me to answer the following questions for the dissertation research?

1. What’s your expectation of an airline travel?

2. How important do you think of the full services during the airline travel (free meal and drinks, entertainments, sleep marks, etc.)?

3. Can you tell me what drive you to travel by (or not by) low cost airline?

4. How do you like their services (such as on time, frequency, response of complaints)?

5. Do you have any comments on their customer service?

6. What’s your comment on the comfort of their airplanes (seats, corridors, hand luggage set, etc)?

7. Do you bother by their secondary airports? (not convenient? etc.)

8. How do you think of their online booking?

9. Can you tell me what your reason is for taking (or not taking) low cost airline next time?

10. Are you going to travel by low cost airline when you are over 65? Why?

11. Can you tell me what your overall impression of low cost airline is?

12. Would you recommend the low cost airlines to other people?

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer these questions!!
;)

1. What’s your expectation of an airline travel?
-To get to and from where I'm heading aprox on time.

2. How important do you think of the full services during the airline travel (free meal and drinks, entertainments, sleep marks, etc.)?
for me, all that matters is that I donæt starve. Movies are of course a blessing, but sitting on your ass sleeping and reading never killed anyone

3. Can you tell me what drive you to travel by (or not by) low cost airline?
the price. I did however avoid the very lowest because of shady reputation.

4. How do you like their services (such as on time, frequency, response of complaints)?
flawless

5. Do you have any comments on their customer service?
never tried it

6. What’s your comment on the comfort of their airplanes (seats, corridors, hand luggage set, etc)?
never been an issue

7. Do you bother by their secondary airports? (not convenient? etc.)
a bit, not really. I happen to live close to one of them, so for me it's actually better concidering that airport

8. How do you think of their online booking?
no problems to mention. i got my tickets without delay

9. Can you tell me what your reason is for taking (or not taking) low cost airline next time?
Again, the low price, but avoid teh BERY cheapest because of so-so reputation

10. Are you going to travel by low cost airline when you are over 65? Why?
Not if I'm filthy rich or if new options have eneterd the market

11. Can you tell me what your overall impression of low cost airline is?
Reminds me of a busride. Just get's me where I'm going.

12. Would you recommend the low cost airlines to other people?

Yes, definatley

1. What’s your expectation of an airline travel?
To get me from A to B on time

2. How important do you think of the full services during the airline travel (free meal and drinks, entertainments, sleep marks, etc.)?
For short flights (around europe) I don't think food and drink is important - it's easy to take your own. Entertainment on long haul is important, comfy seats are important, but if you're serious about sleeping you can always take your own ear plugs and eye mask.

3. Can you tell me what drive you to travel by (or not by) low cost airline?
Low cost!!!!!!!!!!!

4. How do you like their services (such as on time, frequency, response of complaints)?
The service is what you pay for really, although I don't appreciate airlines that don't allocate seats, I can't see why they don't. In terms of being on time, it's always safe not to count on being on time with the cheap airlines.

5. Do you have any comments on their customer service?
Well, I flew long haul on Virgin Atlantic, which certainly wasn't low-cost, and their cabin crew were far less professional than some of the low cost carriers I've flown with. Generally, desk staff and cabin crew are very nice.

6. What’s your comment on the comfort of their airplanes (seats, corridors, hand luggage set, etc)?
Pretty shabby! But for short flights around europe it doesn't really matter.

7. Do you bother by their secondary airports? (not convenient? etc.)
Yip, bothers me! Often the cost of getting from/to the airport makes the ticket mid-cost, not low-cost!

8. How do you think of their online booking?
Super.

9. Can you tell me what your reason is for taking (or not taking) low cost airline next time?
Reason for taking them - low cost!! But I'm going off flying from and to inconvenient airports, so that'll be a reason I also look at alternatives.

10. Are you going to travel by low cost airline when you are over 65? Why?
I'm not sure (only 27, so might be time travelling by the time I'm 65!).

11. Can you tell me what your overall impression of low cost airline is?
Fit for purpose, filling a great market demand

12. Would you recommend the low cost airlines to other people?
If they want low cost, yes.

1. What’s your expectation of an airline travel? for it to be on time and get me there in one piece

2. How important do you think of the full services during the airline travel (free meal and drinks, entertainments, sleep marks, etc.)? - free food is great but most of the airlines are now charging for food so i normally come prepared with my own provisions, for entertainment i read or talk to other passengers ( i'm normally the nosey person on the plane

3. Can you tell me what drive you to travel by (or not by) low cost airline? normally the price, time of flight and the location of the airport, ie if i will have to get additional modes of transport to get to my final destination i will decide if its really worth it, €50 v 5 hours ..... well you get the idea

4. How do you like their services (such as on time, frequency, response of complaints)? the frequency and timing are getting better, before the cheap airlines were so unreliable you never knew if you would really get to your destination, for complaints i still have a problem with their turnaround time, some of the airlines have service level agreements regarding their response times but they hardly keep to them,

5. Do you have any comments on their customer service? in the majority they are okay but i would not go above this, in the past they have been rude, grumpy, didn't know the systems they were using, didn't know the current 'bargains' etc on offer......

6. What’s your comment on the comfort of their airplanes (seats, corridors, hand luggage set, etc)? for me the seats are fine but for my boyfriend, family etc who all have long legs the leg room is a major problem, when you say this to anyone you're told you should stand up or walk down the plane, how is this possible with inflight services taking over the aisle, also if everyone did this it would cause traffice jams,.....

7. Do you bother by their secondary airports? (not convenient? etc.) as before it depends on how much money i would save, at the weekend i flew to small airport in Belgium as the ticket was cheaper, but my final destination was in a small town in Gelderland, the Netherlands, I don't know if I would do that again as I left Dublin at 6.30am and arrived in the town at 5.30pm, (with changes, transfers or trains and breakdowns it was a long journey...)

8. How do you think of their online booking? it can be easy to use but it also depends on the airline

9. Can you tell me what your reason is for taking (or not taking) low cost airline next time? It normally comes down to cost and time of flight……

10. Are you going to travel by low cost airline when you are over 65? Why? Probably , I’ll be on a pension or broke so as I know I will still want to travel I will take whatever I can afford

11. Can you tell me what your overall impression of low cost airline is? On average it’s a good service but a few bad flights tarnish an airline, so for these I may stick with low cost but with different airlines….

12. Would you recommend the low cost airlines to other people? Yes,

1. What’s your expectation of an airline travel?
To get from A to B for low cost, in a timely and courteous manner

2. How important do you think of the full services during the airline travel (free meal and drinks, entertainments, sleep marks, etc.)?
Depends on the length of flight and the time of the flight - non-alcoholic drinks are a must on ALL flights. Snacks and food become more important with the length of the trip and the proximity to lunch/dinner. Movies are a must on long haul flights (over 6 hours).

3. Can you tell me what drive you to travel by (or not by) low cost airline? The low cost.

4. How do you like their services (such as on time, frequency, response of complaints)? I am from the US, so most of my experiance is with Southwest. Their services are all first rate - better than any of the "full price" airlines. they are always on-time, great frequency, on-line booking is a snap and very straightforward, pricing structure is simple, rewards program is simple, etc.

5. Do you have any comments on their customer service? Southwest = excellent

6. What’s your comment on the comfort of their airplanes (seats, corridors, hand luggage set, etc)? Southwest uses open seating which i don't have a problem with. their seats are comfortable. A nice change is that some seats face backwards, so you normally end up having a pretty plesent conversation with the people you are facing.

7. Do you bother by their secondary airports? (not convenient? etc.) The secondary ariports are normally as convinient, if not more, than big hub airports.

8. How do you think of their online booking? excellent

9. Can you tell me what your reason is for taking (or not taking) low cost airline next time? flight availability

10. Are you going to travel by low cost airline when you are over 65? Why? yes - same reasons as above.

11. Can you tell me what your overall impression of low cost airline is? excellent

12. Would you recommend the low cost airlines to other people? I always do

1. What’s your expectation of an airline travel?

Getting fast - and reasonably comfortably and at a reasonably convenient time - to my destination

2. How important do you think of the full services during the airline travel (free meal and drinks, entertainments, sleep marks, etc.)?
If I travel on business I choose the greatest comfort and convenience - I need to be sharp and well functioning when i arrive. When I trabel for pleasure and have time to spare I am more concerned with the cost. Comfort factors only if the trip is long - intercontinental, since I am not young anymore.

3. Can you tell me what drive you to travel by (or not by) low cost airline? Low cost - it allows me to spend more on others things. But if a well known airline offers a similar price to a discounter (no more than $100-$200 higher) I choose a well known airline.

4. How do you like their services (such as on time, frequency, response of complaints)?
I haven't have any problems or complaints, thanks luck, but I have just read in a Swedish paper that Ryanair is notoriously nonchalant about complaints.

5. Do you have any comments on their customer service?
None, no better or worse than regular airlines

6. What’s your comment on the comfort of their airplanes (seats, corridors, hand luggage set, etc)?
You get what you pay for.

7. Do you bother by their secondary airports? (not convenient? etc.)
I do if it is conveient and saves me a bundle.

8. How do you think of their online booking?
Doesn't differ from other airlines

9. Can you tell me what your reason is for taking (or not taking) low cost airline next time?
Cost and convenience. Regular airlines usually do not offer enough worthwhile goodies for the price difference.

10. Are you going to travel by low cost airline when you are over 65? Why? I guess so. Having more time on your hands and less money in your pocket makes for an obvious choice. Besides you meet more variety of people on these flights - far less boring corporste salesmen, far more real travellers.

11. Can you tell me what your overall impression of low cost airline is?
Positive.

12. Would you recommend the low cost airlines to other people?
Of course.
