LOL...yeah well...uhm...I don't go out of the city that much

u should. there is more then just ur backgarden. u should know. do u ever go out? there is an entire world to explore.

I don't even have a backgarden, but sometimes I jump off the balcony instead
But from the 26th of January I will have a backgarden!

Need any gnomes?? I think Mel has a few she might be willing to donate to your garden.

Man, I'm in the top ten? Wowsers. Peter should do up one of those top tens for who is 'ranked the highest' according to the complex algorythm we no longer understand

Ok, since you ask

The way it works is roughly as follows.. Points are allocated to different activities (posting in the forum, having a photo featured, having a blog post featured, contributing to the wiki). A few other variables are added, like how other people have rated your forum entries for instance or whether your name starts with "Pete", everything is shaken up, multiplied by x, divided by z and voila - a rank between 1 and 10 is provided!

So, here are the top 10 users according to their ranking on 07 January 08.

  • GregW - 9.68
  • Peter - 9.54
  • Sam I Am - 8.95
  • Utrecht - 8.78
  • Isadora - 8.63
  • Gelli - 8.57
  • tway - 8.40
  • samsara2 - 8.22
  • dr.pepper - 8.17
  • Sander - 8.09

Users with a rank of 7.7 or higher are given the Travel Guru title.

There you have it.. quite a different list. It should be clear from this that photos, blogs and the guide play quite a large role

If you are bored at work, then work on the Travel Guide.

The last two days it is really quiet at work, and my boss doesn't mind me doing other things, if there is nothing else to do.

You are right, I should, but actually I made so many contributions this summer (weeks of boredom) that I ran out of inspiration to be honest.

How about all those trips you made since then? Iceland could do with quite a bit of editing, Reykjavik is still entirely missing. ;)

I have started to have a play with some of the travel guides. How can you tell who has written what so as to determine their ranking? Is there some magic at play here?

Oh, and Isa is not an 8.63. Without a doubt, she's a "10"

You can see it in the history of each article. Other than that, not really.. but that's only a matter of time as it wouldn't be very hard to include that information on a user's profile :)

Think of it more as a guilt trip than magic, James. It's the Overlords way of getting you to contribute more by putting more stats in your profile. Okay, the guilt only kicks in when you look at your own profile to see how much of a slacker you've been, but we'll love you anyway.

It does not exactly make good business sense to put the customers of TP on a guilt trip.;)
Or does it?

Always nice to see my status recognized mathematically. After all, no one ever just believes me when I tell them how important I am.

Sorry for digging up this very old thread, but I rarely read Off Topic due to the fact that posting here doesn't help my status at all. Gotta make sure I am only performing value add activities with my time. ;)

Edited to add: Oh, and given that was back in January, I bet I have fallen behind Lavafalls by now...
