Hi all,

New here. I hope to get some help here for my travel in April. The question is: What is the shortest route to drive from LA to the Monterey/Pebble Beach area, and how long will it take?

Thanks in advance.

There is the highway 101 (from memory) but we didn't do that - the prettiest is the Pacific Coast Highway, (Route 1) which is absolutely glorious. Take a couple of days to do it if you can. We stayed at the Tickle Pink Inn overlooking the ocean just outside Carmel - fantastic, suites, huge open fireplaces, spectacular views. Would love to go

You didn't say what part of LA you'll be departing from, but from downtown you're looking at Distance: 324 miles Time: 5 hours (approx.)

If speed (not scenery) is the criteria, then your route will be:
Interstate 5 north to CA-46 west, then US-101 north to CA-68
Based on 37 years of driving in California, this is the consistent fast route.

Have a safe trip.

Ham & Rienne,

Thank you for the info! I did the scenic route a couple years back, and it was glorious as you say. But this time I will need to get to Monterey fast. Thanks again.
