Hi All,

i just wanted reminding / confirming when to expect the wet weather in South East Asia. Planning to fly to Hanoi and travel all the way to bali before flying over to OZ. I wanted to go about Aug time, but seem to remember that this is when the downpours start.

Anyone know?

Cheers

JD

In Singapore we get 2 monsoon seasons and August will be in the South-western monsoon season from June to September. Just bring along an umbrella, that's how we survive! Can get really hot and humid though, but many places are air-conditioned. And it doesn't rain as heavily or frequent as the North-eastern monsoon from December to March.

James,
Your memory is working OK. June until Oct. can be pretty wet in SEA. Bring your umbrella and get out there!

Thanks for the advice guys!

Would you recommend postponing travels until October time (when the monsoon season finishes) or just go with the flow and get a bit wet!

I dont mind waiting a few extra months for the sake of better weather...

Has anyone reading this ever travelled in the rainy season....any advice?

Thanks

I'm looking on heading to Thailand/Cambodia/Vietnam an Laos end of feb-mid may, was wondering what weather to expect then in these places? Hope its good!

From what i have researched, it looks like these countries share a similar climate.

Rainy season is between may - oct and generally pours it down for 2 hours in day (more at night) followed by sun!:)

Mike,
This is probably the best time to be in SEA. High season prices are over and you generally have mostly sunny days, everyday. The rains usually don't arrive until late may. You will have the chance to experience Songkran if you are in Thailand April 13-15. It is a real wild affair in Pattaya and lasts a week 13-19. Just make sure you like to get wet and party. If so, Thai New Year or Songkran maybe just your type of festival.

I have plenty of Songkran photos in my gallery that may help you decide if you want to be there for the madness.
