Hi there, planning my trip to Oz in March 2008, travelling alone !.

Im planning on starting in Adelaide as my mother has some friends there, want to get to Melbourne for the Formula 1 Grand Prix on March 16th.

Has anyone got experience of this route and maybe suggest a tour I could take on the Great Ocean Road...?

Any help much appreciated...

Cheers

G

Hi

I did a 2 day/1night tour of the great ocean road with Greyhound, which I booked in Adelaide. It was a really good tour and good value and I think 2 days was enough. There were plenty of chances to stop and get out, take photos etc and we stopped in a place called Warnambool for the night. It's a beautiful route - definitely recommended!

I haven't travelled between Adelaide and Warnambool but did the Melbourne to Warnambool route before heading northwards towards Mildura via The Grampians NP.
I did a 3 day trip by rental car from Melbourne to Halls Gap in The Grampians, staying overnight in a motel very close to the 12 Apostels which, although being crowded sometimes, is a real must see. I liked the Grampians by the way as well, great place to do some hiking or even driving around.
Close to Warnambool is Tower Hill State Game Reserve, which has several great walkes and you can see lots of wildlife over there, especially many kangoroos and koalas. I also saw the echidna over there, which along with the platypus is one of two mammals which lay eggs if I am correct. Very impressive.
Driving the Great Ocean Road is just magnificent and I liked every single bit of it.
