Hi Guys,

I need some advice planning my trip.....Me and my Girlfriend want to go travelling this year and the places we definately want to see are SEA, OZ and NZ.

We are quite eagar to go, so would like to leave as early as July, but want to avoid the rainy season and the OZ winter. I have also done some research and it looks like the price of a flight from the UK to OZ/NZ via SEA is roughly the same price as a RTW flight.

Someone has suggested going to the USA (NY & LA) first, then fly to Fiji, NZ, OZ and finish in Asia. This will mean landing in our more desired destinations when the weather is preferred.

I was wondering if anyone has done this route before and whether they would recommned over the more popular direction (East). Between the two of us we have budgeted for £10,000 for 9-10 months......Do you think this will be enough to support us for all the above destinations.

Finally, How much can we expect to spend in the USA. Was planning to be in NY for 3 days and LA 3 days before flying to Fiji.

Any advice would be much appricated.

Thanks

James

You can get from London to Australia via South East Asia fairly cheaply (certainly cheaper than a RTW fare) if you are willing to take a bit of a scenic route and can book in advance by at least a few months. You could get an Oasis airlines flight from London Gatwick-Hong Kong. Then if you wanted to make an adventure out of it, you could get other flights or overland travel from Hong Kong until you reached a place like Singapore or Kuala Lumpur where you can get a cheap flight on Air Asia (from Kuala Lumpur-Gold Coast in Australia) or Tiger Airways from Singapore-a few places in Australia but cheapest flight normally being Darwin. If you checked out those options your flights would certainly be a lot less than a round the world ticket unless you left it until the last minute to book and even then it would still probably be a lot cheaper.

For the flight from London-Hong Kong and then another flight from Singapore-Darwin it would cost approx 370GBP including taxes. Of course this doesn't include the cost of getting from Hong Kong-Singapore which would be part of your adventure and this is also assuming you can get the cheap flights on the dates you would require. You'd also need to be able to book well in advance to get those prices. I was looking in July for those rates.

It would be better though to do a proper round the world trip instead of a bit of a South East Asia adventure on your way to Australia.

well thats the exact route im taking - London to NYC - LA but then instead of going straight to Fiji ... im heading to NZ 1st then Australia, onto Fiji and bk to Australia ... my RTW ticket was about £1450 but that included an internal flight within Australia, and onwards flights to Thailand & India... my flight from Australia to Fiji im going to fund when i arrive in Oz.

depending on your budget, it may pay to book a RTW ticket which will enable you to see some sights and sounds you havent seen b4 i.e NYC etc .. plus if your looking at staying there for just a few nights, your not going to be spending a great deal of £$£$£ ....
