There are many options but all depend upon your taste, the distances and costs you are prepared to face.
Going south (Panama): from San Jose along the coast south of Limon (Caribbean), visit Bocas del Toro.
Going north (Nicaragua): from San Jose over the interamerican highway to Granada. Eventually Massaya and, a bit further, Leon. If you can fit Guatemale in, visit Antigua and the lake of Atitlan.
If you have specific wishes, let me know.
Cheers.:)

wow thanks! that sounds amazing!

I would really love to go to Panama and Nicaragua! the only problem is i might only have 3 weeks left after spending 4 weeks in Costa Rica (Why do i have to start University in Sept!! lol).

Is it easy and cheap to travel round Panama and Nicaragua? i will also be on my own, so is it easy to meet fallow backpackers????

Hey there, im planning to volunteer in an orphanage in Atenas in Costa Rica from the start of July until Sept! Can I ask what organisation you are goin with? I am applying with IFRE volunteers. I can´t decide how long to do it for though as I want to travel around costa rica but done know how much time to volunteer for. I am going alone as well, but I should have a friend I met while travelling who should be there by July.. if all goes to plan :)

If you plan the holiday youself instead (which is very easy) unlike rickdunn. You will save yourself at least £1000, which you can spend on flight or housing.

Iv just checked the site that you are using for volunteer work and good god its expensive...

check this out..

http://www.parisminaturtles.org/

20 dollars a day, 3 meals/bed/laundry included....

So unless you wana pay 1000 dollars for surfing lessons id go with the above (or similar) option

Hi,

Do you have any personal experience with Parismina Turtles?
I could be interested in that kind of work.

Hi Per-Tore

I have had no experience working wioth these guys. I am returning to America for the 2nd time and I was hoping to do it more economically than the last time and hopefully learn some more spanish along the way. I looked into doing some volunteering but most of them are way to pricey.

I started googling and found this

http://www.travelblog.org/Forum/Threads/11022-1.html

So after reading the reviews I send a mail to the organisers who replied to me confirming the prices etc.

Im heading over next March so they just asked me to call in January.

I think you just have to patrol a beach for a few hours each night in return for food/room and its a small village with 400 locals so theres a good opportunity tobush up on you spanish

hope this help
