Worldwide Travel Insurance - more than 12 months?! HELP!

Travel Forums Round the World Travel Worldwide Travel Insurance - more than 12 months?! HELP!

Hi,

Has anyone got any advice on getting worldwide travel insurance for more than 12 months? My girlfriend and I are going to South America first, for about 6 months, and then on to NZ (2-4 weeks) and then Oz on a WHV so not sure when we will return - hoping to stay away as long as possible like everyone else!!!

The cheapest quote for both of us on moneysupermarket for worldwide cover for 2 years came out at about 1000 pounds?!? The cheapest for 12 months was about 350 which is better, although I would have thought it would be less than double for 2 years - not 3 times the price......!

I would just go for getting a year now and renew next year but I have heard that you need to be in or leave from the uk when buying the policy?!

Has anyone got any ideas or advice on getting something cheaper as we are on a tight budget? Not taking much of value other than a camera, and just want the basic medical cover etc.

I did a quick search of the forums and although lots of people are doing trips over 12 months nobody went into any detail about travel insurance!

Any advice would be greatly received - we fly on 15th March!

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve

This is something Im looking into too and have found either World Nomads or Insure and Go to be very competitive. World Nomads seem to be great because you can just get 12 months and have the option to extend while you are travelling if you need to. The quote I got was in the £250pp mark which seemed ok, it also includes some 'adventure' sports which is really good. You can also specify expensive items such as camera, Ipod etc for a small charge on this policy.

Insure and Go were in the same region but I haven't really had time yet to read the small print to see which is really better value for money.

Hope this helps

Sophie

I have also been looking into this recently and to be honest i am a little 'shocked' at the prices of insurance.

I have been recommended Insure and Go, and also got quote between £200 and £300. Which is alot better than people like STA travel quoted me nearer £400!! Crazy

Is it only this country where we are having to pay through the nose for such things as insurance, Tax and flights....Joke. Moan over.

Hi I bought 12 months travel insurance for asia/aus/nz for around 300EUR from a company called Coverworks. I then decided to stay an extra 3 months (so I was not extending it from the country I purchased it from) for about 100 Euro.
Worldwide travel insurance with them is 190 pounds sterling for 24 months.
You do have to be from the uk or ireland though

I got what looks like good insurance from flexicover for £150 and you can extend while on the go, it might be worth a look mate, they cover all the usual sports and seem to match the other companies
Hope this helps Ruby

Better late than never, but if anyone is having trouble getting over 12 months cover Travel Insurance Direct can do up to 18 months I believe. My brother went with them earlier in the year. They are at www.travelcover.co.uk
