Hi,

I am planning on travelling for a year in may this yr. I plan on going to Fiji and would like to know where the best places to go are (which Islands?), how long should be spent there? and what are the costs like? money go far?

Your help will be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

Hi Mark,
We stayed on the main island of Viti Levu, landing at Nadi and staying on the coral (south) coast. For us it was a place to chill and do very little, but I dare say there's more to do in a town.
Fiji is a simple place though so don't expect luxury unless you want to pay for it. There is a range of accommodation at all prices. Just be careful as usual with cheap food. Usual precautions apply.
The people are extremely friendly, the fruit is amazing and it's HOT.

Hi ya

I was in Fiji in May last year for 10 days and I found that it was just the right amount of time. Its a really chilled out and relaxing place and I loved it there. To explore the islands there is only one way to do it and thats to get a Bula pass which you can just book when your there. You can either get a 7 or 14 day pass. They do tailor made itinaries or you can just make up your own (which is what I did and you can go to as many island as you want). Only thing I would bear in mind is in the peak seasons the really nice islands get booked up so you may want to book up when you first get there to avoid disappointment. As for the cost I cant remember how much I paid, I remember thinking it was quite expensive compared to the hostels I paid for in Aus and NZ but you do get all your food included within that price so it does work out OK and its well worth it.

Have an amazing time and please visit Bounty Island as its excellent!

Quite untrue.

The poster as quoted has in fact seen very very little of Fiji at all-he stuck to the well worn tourist track and was managed from breakfast to bedtime.

There are in fact over 300 inhabited islands in Fiji and a world of friendly welcoming people to explore, a person could spend months travelling via local means and meeting the people/seeing how they live/sharing their lives.

Bounty Island has nothing to do with Fiji or Fijian life.
