I am currently in Chile and will be in South America for 4 months. Was thinking of getting a new mobile sim but i will need one that will work in Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil without hitting me hard for roaming costs.

Anybody have any knowledge of the best one to buy and where from?

My knowledge on the topic is a few years old, but back then I did extensive research and concluded that it´s never worth the hassle. Locutorios are cheap and abundant throughout SA. Better use your money on nicer things.

I am not sure about cards you can use in all those countries. I had one in Chile but I could not use it internationally for three months. I would just go around and check with the cell phone companies there. I bet there are some big S. American companies you could use.
I will ask a friend in Chile if he has any advice.

here now and have the mobile phone but not bothered with a sim card.

Firstly you´ll need a phone that covers all regions of the world to work in South America (can´t remember the exact zone number) but a triband, or dual band phone will not work here. Quad Band phones only (unless you buy the phone down here!!!)

secondly.... agree with earlier post. Locuturios are cheap enough and allow mobile phone calls also (they actually give you the mobile phone having looked at the number to see which network it´s on and which one of their phones will be the cheapest....

This means that you actually save money with these guys !!! Which is cool !

Hope this Helps

PS Skyp also works with Mobile phone numbers down here also.... so that´s your cheapest option !
